Hiroshi Matsuda
Chief Research Scientist

Hiroshi is a Chief Research Scientist at Megagon Labs, Tokyo office. Hiroshi is leading the development of the Japanese Dependency Parser, GiNZA. His primary research interests include multilingual dependency parsing based on Universal Dependencies, exploring the principles behind syntactic ability acquisition in large language models, and ensuring the safety and fairness of AI systems.

After obtaining his Master’s degree in Engineering from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), he joined JustSystems Corporation. From 2002, he led technical direction in the company’s NLP R&D division and became Head of R&D in 2010. Since 2012, he has worked at multiple startups as a programmer, tech lead, and data scientist, receiving accolades such as the Google Play Award and the Japan HR Challenge Grand Prize for Excellence in HR Services. He also serves as a collaborative researcher at the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics (NINJAL) and a visiting researcher at the National Institute of Informatics (NII).

His hobbies include playing the viola, walking his rescue dog (a Siberian Husky), and crafting home furniture for his rescue cat (a calico).
